Good question Debbie. Without going into the book I am going to guess right off the top of my head. This person's po2 is ok, and their pH is alkaline, and pco2 is on the low side, so it sounds like there is some hyperventilation going on, so I am going to guess, check respirations first. Then I will go look it up.

Now that I looked at the question again, I don't like the word monitor, it doesn't sound like the nurse is doing anything, breathing into a paper bag sounds better.

Anyone answer the paper bag? If so, you were right. My husband the RT said, they are hyperventilating, drug'em. I told him that was not an option. He said,"I don't care, drug 'em anyway." That is why he is not a nurse.
