Safety and risk factory of high school and younger health issues
Teens and young adults at risk for:

Age 15-19 unintentional injuries (preventable causes)
Age 13-21 HIV/AIDS Most of the new infecton
Suicide attempts
Ride bicycles without a helmet
Carry weapons
Smoke cigarettes, drink alcohol
Sexual intercourse, over half without a condom
Overweight, very few healthy eating habits.
5% binge and purge
Most do some form of exercise

Pregnant teens:
Mother in their teen: 33% no early prenatal care

High risk infant care application:

Healthy People 2010: Objective for Maternal and Infant Health

Reduce fetal and infant deaths.
Increase proportion of pregnant women who attend a series of prepared childbirth classes
Reduce preterm births.
Reduce the occurrence of spina bifida and other neural tube defects.
Increase abstinence from alcohol, cigarettes, and illicit drugs among pregnant women.
Increase the percentage of healthy full-term infants who are put down to sleep on theire backs.
Increase the proportion of mothers who breast-feed their babies.

Asians and Pacific Islanders have indicators that suggest they are one of the healthiest population groups in the US.

Income and education underlie man health disparities in the US. People with the worst health status have some of the highest poverty rates and least education.

Many people with disabilities lack access to health services and medical care.

Rural areas are less likely to use preventive screening services, exercise regularly or wear sesat belts and are more likely to be uninsured

Gay and lesbian have problems unique to heir populations:
  1. Higher risk for HIV and other STDs

  2. Increased risk for substance abuse, depression and suicide
Lesbians have higher rates of:
  1. smoking

  2. obesity

  3. alcohol abuse

  4. stress
